Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Pulls a Budlight Move
The Demise of the Unpatriotic and Woke Ice Cream Brand
For those of you that may not be active on Twitter, on July 4th, Ben and Jerry's ice cream brand tweeted the above image calling for a return of "stolen Indigenous land." They also provide a link to their website with this caption:
"Ah, the Fourth of July. Who doesn't love a good parade, some tasty barbecue, and a stirring firework display? The only problem with all that, though, is that it can distract from an essential truth about this nation's birth: The US was founded on stolen Indigenous land."
Reviewing Ben and Jerry's Twitter, it is ripe with discontent over the recent supreme court judgment overturning discriminatory affirmative action and Roe Vs. Wade. They also encourage ending "gun violence in America." They also support "Safe Routes for Refugees," with little concern about the rape and violence against women in the process. They also support "gender euphoria" and supporting trans kids, despite there being no research that sexual reassignment surgery benefits these children in the long run.
Personally, watching propaganda gives me mixed emotions. As the executive director of the largest nursing advocacy nonprofit, seeing these messages while being on the frontlines of helping these vulnerable populations is baffling. Companies support these ideologies, yet the nurses on the frontline see the opposite of what is being portrayed by their benevolent support.
Personally, in my family, we don't purchase ice cream very often, we make ours at home from a few basic recipes that can be adapted to dozens of different flavors. If we do buy ice cream, it definitely won't be from a company like Ben and Jerry's that doesn't align with our belief system, especially a belief system of a family whose father is Native American and whose mother is Hispanic.
